As a small business owner myself for nearly 30 years, I have honed my skills in a wide variety of areas. While in college at the University of California, Berkeley, I worked as a medical office manager and started my own business setting up new medical offices. After college, my husband and I started a lighting manufacturing business, which is still in operation today. Later I opened a retail lighting store, which I ran for a decade.

During this time, we had two wonderful children who are now in their twenties. To fill the empty nest, we just got a Black Russian Terrier puppy. Our menagerie includes a black cat, a Yellow Nape Amazon parrot and an aging horse named Red.

Wanting to try something different, I did several seasons of tax return preparation and accounting for a CPA. Being an employee again made me realize that I really preferred being self-employed, wanted my own business, wanted flexibility, and did not want employees. I took classes in financial planning and graphic design and thought about how to pull all my experience and interests together.

Then I discovered the profession of Virtual Assistant and the premiere training program offered by AssistU. I have found in it the perfect union of my experience, passion for small business, and desire to keep continually learning, all in an environment of my own design and with no commute!
